Persian support was banned, it is reported that the practice still continues regardless through country’s authorized and unauthorized channels.
Mobile handset market expert Javaad Aslan-Pour, in conversation with MOBNA, said that most handsets currently imported from China and Europe are without such a feature.
He indicated that these handsets could only support Persian by means of a especial software and this is despite ban by ministries of Information & Communication Technology and Commerce.
ICT Deputy-minister had recently said that supporting Persian language should be a criterion by which Iranians should purchase mobile handsets.
The issue of mobile handsets supporting Persian language was raised when Commerce Ministry altered Latin and Persian Payamac (SMS) tariffs.
Latin Payamac tariff was raised from 140 Rial to 222 Rial while Persian Payamac tariff was lowered to 89 Rial imposed as from next July.
