”Mobile phone market is in a bad situation and smuggling is one of the main elements that hinder domestic mobile set production,” Mohammad-Ebrahim Motale’ told Mobna news agency.
”Currently, the production environment is not ready for manufacturing companies due to high tariffs and smuggling,” he said.
”The idea of selling mobile sets with sim cards by operators to support domestic production has not caught on in the country,” Motale’ added.
He spoke of domestic companies’ negotiating with Industries and Mines ministry and mobile phone operators to facilitate domestic mobile production.
The ministry has decided to raise mobile import tariff, in agreement with domestic companies such as itmc and Emad semiconductors, to make proper condition for domestic mobile protection, but the goal has yet not been reached.
