“The recent remarks by government officials suggest there is government support for domestic mobile set manufacturers, but the fate of its import tariff is still unclear,” Bijan Safavi told Mobna news agency.
“Since nearly all experts believe the countrys effort to manufacture mobile phone has been a failure some wonder why the idea is still being supported by the government,” he added.
“Failure to lower mobile import tariff from 25 to 10 percent has resulted in a chaotic market,” he said.
He stressed domestic manufacturers who engaged in producing mobile sets should bear in mind that mobile set assembly is not mobile set production, and the action simply raises production cost.
He said manufacturing 200,000 mobile sets a year when over 14 million sets are needed is quite indefensible.
