3rd Generation Refers to the current generation of data transmission capabilities over a cellular network that provide Internet access and real-time video via smart mobile phones. The major 3G technologies are EV-DO, WCDMA, HSPA, GPRS and EDGE, although GPRS and EDGE are often called 2.5G because of their lower speeds.
“Telecommunication ministrys research center will launch 3G network pilot project. This project has a special and apart network and the tests were successful,” Kamal Mahamedpour told Mobna news agency.
“Four BTS sites have been launched for this 3G research project. For completing the pilot project, network efficiency will be tested on 100 special subscribers among Telecommunication ministry officials to ensure that the services work,” he added.
Base Transceiver Station (BTS) is the equipment which facilitates the wireless communication between user equipments (UE) and the network. UEs are devices like mobile phones (handsets), WLL phones, computers with wireless internet connectivity, WiFi and WiMAX gadgets etc.
“The project is aimed at familiarizing telecommunication experts and managers with 3G network. Third mobile phone operator will launch 3G network,” he said.
England, Austria, Greece, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and Spain are among countries which have 3G networks.
