“The mobile sets that are smuggled in through northern borders are often those which have been custom-made for Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, whose authorities are well advised to find a way to stop the smuggling,” market expert Mohammad Towhidi told Mobna news agency.
“A majority of authorized mobile set importers are unable to compete with the smugglers and so find it hard to stay in business.” he added.
He believed the best solution to the problem was for the retailers to provide proper guarantees, as well as after-sale service to the customers.
He indicated that such practices are too few and very little has been done to promote it.
He said that in recent years there have been talks about protection of domestic products and the authorities have made their utmost efforts in that respect.
“But it should be understood that as long as the countrys technology is not up-to-date and the mobile sets manufactured in the country are replicas of foreign-made sets, the country’s mobile phone industry will not prosper,” Towhidi concluded.
