“A limited quantity of the iPHONE was imported and the sets were purchased by those who prefer touch screen handsets,” Ali Kermani, a mobile set retailer told Mobna news agency.
The set was sold at the retail price of 7.1 million rials (755 dollars) a piece, but with the shortage in the market the sets price is predicted to soar.
Meanwhile, with the oversupply of Nokia mobile handsets by unauthorized importers, the prices of all Nokia brands have plunged by 200,000 rials (20 dollars).
“Other reason that has prompted the fall in price is the rumor circulating that the duty on imported mobile handsets will be 10 percent,” another retailer Majid Nasseri told Mobna.
Currently mobile set importers are paying 25 percent import duty on the sets.
He added that due to the circulating rumor the demand for Nokia brands fell dramatically resulting in the retailers lowering their price for the high demand Nokia models.
He continued to say that Sony-Eriksson models 5610, 6300, N95 and E65, which are most sought after models, are being sold 200,000 rials (20 dollars) cheaper.
He said that these models are now being sold at 4.7 million rials (500 dollars), 1.7 million rials (180 dollars), 2.7 million rials (290 dollars) and 2.65 million rials (280 dollars) respectively.
