Latest figures show that MCI’s 27 million subscribers send 40 million messages per day at the rate of 222 and 89 rials (two to a fraction of a dollar) for non Persian and Persian messages respectively.
MCI officials attribute such incidents to cases such as the receiver’s set being off, message sent to a wrong number or receiver phone box being full, and believe only a small number of incidents were caused by problems in the network.
Khodarahmi believes, however, that this is largely due to MCI selling more sim cards than its network could cope.
