“Iranian first and second nation wide mobile phone operators (Mobile Company of Iran and Irancell) are ready to meet the Syrian operators to find a way to lower the roaming service fees,” Irans telecommunication minister Mohammad Soleimani was quoted as saying after a meeting with his counterpart in Damascus by the ministrys public relations.
“With the present volume of transactions between the two countries a lower roaming fees could increase trade between the two countries thus boosting economic profits for each country,” he added.
“Every year some 500,000 to 600,000 Iranian pilgrims visit Syria and we could do more to improve the telecom service for them,” he said.
Soleimani also said that Iran is ready to resolve quickly the landline phone problems between the two countries with the existing technical capabilities.
He said since Iran’s fiber optic network has been connected to Iraq’s network, so using it, we can lower the cost of Iran-Syria telecommunication traffic.
