Following Megafon’s commencement of its activities in Iran, the Ministry of Information & Communication Technology’s Education, Research and International Affairs deputy has announced that, according to country’s law, domestic investors will support Megafon Operator activities in the country.
Kamaal Mohaamed-Pour, in conversation with MOBNA, said there is an Iranian law which supports foreign investments, and indicated that Megafon Operator could, by entering a joint venture with a domestic company, practice its telecommunication activities in Iran.
He referred to Megafon’s authorized agent in Iran and said the operator intends to purchase Iran Telecom shares and participate in the 3rd Operator tender.
He said the present economic sanctions against Iran will not prevent foreign telecom companies from pursuing their activities in the country.
He stressed, however, that other foreign operators, including Chinese, have agents in Iran and are currently active in telecom projects.
Earlier, Iran Telecom International Affairs director Ahmad Pourang-Nia, had said that despite 3 declarations of economic sanctions against Iran, some of the world’s major operators have announced their inclination to take part in country’s telecommunication market.
He added that the Russian Megafon, which is a major operator in Russia and involved as operator in some other countries, is one.
